CETP
Basic Practices and Principles: Book series 1
This initial 3 day course study provides basic knowledge of the propane industry, including
physical and combustion properties; industry codes, standards and organizations; basic parts of
propane tanks, cylinders and equipment: maintaining a safe working environment; identifying tools
and supplies; and serving the customer. Completion of this course is required to complete all
other courses in the CETP program.
Propane Delivery: Book Series 2
Areas covered in this include operating propane delivery vehicles, filling storage containers and
making customer deliveries of propane. Contains information about complying with U.S DOT
regulation §172.704 (transportation and unloading of L.P-gas transported in cargo tank motor
vehicles.)
Plant Operations: Book Series 3
This course includes materials on identifying and installing container valves and gauges; filling
tanks and cylinders; removing propane from tanks and/or cylinders; and unloading propane transports
and tank cars.
Distribution: Book Series 4.1 & 4.2
Covers designing and installing propane storage tanks and cylinders;vapor regulators
and metering systems; vapor distribution systems; cathodic protection systems; inspecting
and pressure-testing propane piping systems.
Transfer Systems: Book Series 5
Class includes material on maintaining and troubleshooting pumps, meters and compressors;
maintaining propane valves, flow monitors and hose; and inspecting and maintaining liquid transfer
systems.
Appliance Installation: Book Series 6
This course focuses on placing propane burning appliances into service. Including principles of
venting and ventilation; principles of combustion and make up air, pressure testing and leak
checking propane piping systems; sizing and installing venting systems.
Successful completion of Books 6, FGT 1.1, 7, are required for a Connection/Service endorsment.
Natural Gas Supplement: Book Series FGT 1.1
This course focuses on the Properties of Natural Gas, Procedures for Installing House Piping,
and Procedures for Placing Natural Gas Operated Equipment In-Service as required by the
State of Maine due to the dual fuel license for Propane & Natural Gas. Students need to bring a current NFPA 54 to class.
Appliance Service: Book Series 7
Emphasis is placed on trouble shooting skills basic to electrical circuits/systems and controls
that are incorporated into modern propane appliances. Students are instructed in the proper use
of electrical multi-meters with hands-on lab work. Students will need to bring Multi-Meter to class.
Large Industrial/Commercial: Book Series 8
For single appliances of 500,000 BTUH and larger.Topics covered include gas supply requirements,
valve trains, ignition safety systems, and burner designs. Plus complete gas system testing
and start-up procedures applicable to large gas fired equipment.
